Reach Out and Read


Our Mission...

Reach Out and Read makes literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric primary care so that children grow up with books and a love of reading.

Our Model...

In the exam room, trained doctors and nurses talk to parents about the importance of reading aloud.
•
At each check-up from 6 months to 5 years, the child receives a new book to take home.
•
Clinic waiting rooms are transformed into literacy-rich areas with volunteer readers modeling techniques of reading aloud.

Become a Member of the Friends of Reach Out and Read® New Jersey

Please help make those early years count for as many children as possible!

As a Friend of ROR-NJ you will receive invitations to special events, quarterly newsletters, and the satisfaction of knowing you are making a real and lasting difference in a child’s life.

As a Friend of ROR-NJ you may wish to help us in one of the following ways:

  • Become a volunteer reader.
  • Volunteer for a special event.
  • Join a speaker's bureau.
  • Help select books for children.
  • Sort, mark & distribute books.
  • Participate in fund-raising events.
  • Sponsor a "Friends" house-party.
  • Adopt a ROR Site in your community

You can become a member of Friends of ROR-NJ for $25. Additional contributions are welcome. If you or your group would like additional information about Friends of ROR-NJ, please email us by clicking on the envelope in the left column.  You can also download a Friends of RORNJ Application as a PDF.
